"Solutions for Partial Foot Amputations"

Learn about the improvement of the functional outcome of partial foot amputees and the restoration of ambulation. A review of the anatomy as it relates to partial foot amputations and the assessment of biomechanical deficits of partial foot amputation. The course will discuss fabrication options and techniques in addition to, gait training, outcomes and coding considerations.

Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm

Location: Podium

Speaker: Robert H. Meier, CO

"Pediatric Partial Foot Solutions"

There is little data available on the treatment of pediatric partial foot amputations. Informaiton on post-op management of partial foot amputations will be presented that offers a consistent protocol to successfully manage the residumm. The protocol involves managing shearing forces to help preserve the residual limb and correcting the acquired limb length deficit to restore more normal gait function.

Time: 3:15pm - 4:00pm

Location: Podium

"Comprehensive Model for the Management of Partial Foot Amputations"

The incidence of partial foot amputation is increasing and so is the diversity of ideas on how to manage them. Failure and re-amputation rates are troublesome. There is little data in literature relative to destructive shearing forces that occur because of amputation, and no data was found on the acquired limb length deficit that occuer secondary to partial foot amputation.

New information on postop management of partial foot amputations will be presented that offers a consistent protocol to successfully manage the residuum. The protocol involves managing shearing forces to help preserve the residual limb and correcting the acquired limb length deficit to restore more normal gait function.

Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

"Orthotic Management of Soft Tissue Dysfunctions"

Any number of orthotic interventions are available to help in the healing process of soft tissue injuries and dysfunctions such as Insertional Achilles Tendinopathies or Posterior Tibialis Tendon Dysfunction leading to Adult Acquired Flatfoot deformity. Medical evidence shows that many traditional interventions weaken already weak structures and, in the process, inhibit healing.

This course summarizes 37 published articles regarding disruption leading to the diagnosis of Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy and describes medical evidence relating to the biomechanics of soft tissue healing. This presentation leads to guidance on which evidence-based intervention would create the best orthotic environment to optimize healing of soft tissue dysfunctions.
